Security Systems Engineer – High Wycombe
PlumbLink is looking for an experienced and reliable Security Systems Engineer to support our growing range of property improvement and security installation work across High Wycombe and surrounding areas.
We are looking to develop long term working relationships with professional self employed engineers experienced in the installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault finding of modern electronic security systems.
This is an ad hoc subcontracting opportunity, ideal for an established security engineer looking for additional local work alongside their existing customers and commitments.
The Role
You will attend residential and commercial properties to undertake security system installations, upgrades, maintenance, repairs and fault finding.
Our work covers five main areas:
Intruder Alarms
• Wired and wireless intruder alarm installation
• Alarm system upgrades and replacements
• PIR detectors and door/window contacts
• Control panels, keypads and external sounders
• Smart alarm systems and mobile app configuration
• System commissioning and testing
• Alarm fault finding, servicing and repairs
Access Control Systems
• Residential and commercial access control
• Standalone and networked access control systems
• Keypad and proximity access
• Card and fob systems
• Electric locks and door release systems
• Exit buttons and associated equipment
• System programming and commissioning
• Fault finding and repairs
CCTV
• IP and HD CCTV system installation
• Internal and external CCTV cameras
• NVR and DVR installation and configuration
• Network configuration for CCTV systems
• Remote viewing and mobile app setup
• Camera positioning and adjustment
• System commissioning
• CCTV upgrades, maintenance and fault finding
Video Entry
• Video door entry systems
• Residential and multi-user entry systems
• Door stations and internal monitors
• IP and smart video entry systems
• Intercom systems
• Electric door release integration
• Mobile app configuration where applicable
• System commissioning, maintenance and fault finding
Gate Automation
• Automated gate systems
• Swing and sliding gate automation
• Gate motors and control equipment
• Safety devices and photocells
• Remote controls and access devices
• Intercom and access control integration
• System setup and commissioning
• Maintenance, diagnostics and repairs
Engineers do not necessarily need to specialise equally in every system. Applicants with strong experience across several of these areas are encouraged to apply.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for engineers with practical experience in electronic security and access systems who are capable of working independently and delivering installations to a professional standard.
Ideally, you will have:
• Proven security systems installation experience
• Experience with CCTV systems
• Intruder alarm experience
• Access control experience
• Video entry or intercom experience
• Gate automation experience where applicable
• Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills
• Good understanding of low voltage wiring and structured cabling
• Good understanding of IP networking for connected security equipment
• Ability to configure systems, apps and remote access
• Ability to commission and test completed installations
• Full UK driving licence
• Own suitable van or work vehicle
• Own professional tools and testing equipment
• Appropriate insurance for subcontract work
• Smartphone with internet access
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Professional appearance and attitude
• Excellent timekeeping and reliability
• High standard of workmanship and attention to detail
Relevant manufacturer training, industry qualifications and electrical knowledge would be advantageous.
Customer Service
When undertaking work on our behalf, you will represent the business directly at the customer’s property.
You should be comfortable discussing installations with customers, explaining how systems operate and providing clear demonstrations following completion.
Installations must be completed neatly and professionally, with particular attention given to cable routing, equipment positioning, containment and the overall finished appearance.
Accurate job notes and photographic records of completed work will be required where appropriate.
Subcontractor Arrangement
This is a self employed, ad hoc subcontracting opportunity rather than a salaried position.
Work will be offered as suitable security system enquiries, installations and service jobs become available.
The scope of work, requirements and subcontractor rate will be agreed before each job.
You will have the flexibility to accept work according to your availability, making this particularly suitable for established security engineers looking to supplement their existing workload.

Work will primarily be within High Wycombe and surrounding areas, generally within approximately a 10 to 15 mile radius.

Who This Would Suit
This opportunity would suit an established self employed Security Systems Engineer, CCTV Engineer, Access Control Engineer or Security Installation Engineer looking for additional work in High Wycombe and the surrounding Buckinghamshire area.
We are particularly interested in multi-skilled engineers who can work across CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, video entry and gate automation systems.
Engineers specialising in one or several of these areas may also be considered depending on experience and the requirements of individual projects.
